Africaworld Newspaper sends Senegal, its players and coach, a warm congratulatory message on their maiden win of the AFCON trophy. We so appreciate the energy, skill and determination they showcased at the just ended AFCON tournament in Cameroon.
As a Pan-Africanist publication, we are proud that Senegal has demonstrated that Africa can win trophies at the guidance of indigenous coaches. This challenges the narrative that only foreign coaches can train, equip, prepare and lead African teams. Senegalese coach Aliou Cissé becomes a model of possibility.
He has headed the team from 2015, enduring losses, criticism and other problems. Cisse’ is now the face of Senegal’s football pride. We on the other commend Senegal as a country for believing in their own talent and leadership.
Cisse’ failed many times but he was not sacked or made to resign, neither did the country hire a foreign coach; this is Africanicity. The country supported him to build a strong team that has now won the AFCON trophy.
To all African countries hiring foreign coaches, learn to believe in your Own, trust, patience and support is needed to grow a nation.
THE BLACK MAN CAN DO IT!
