Pakistani court sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan to 14 years in prison on Friday in a case involving land corruption.”
The charges stemmed from allegations that Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, received land from a real estate developer in exchange for unlawful favors during his tenure from 2018 to 2022.
Khan denied the charges, with his party’s foreign media wing asserting that “the Al Qadir Trust case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi lacks any solid foundation and is bound to collapse.”
The ruling is considered “the biggest financial misconduct charge Khan has ever faced” and represents a significant blow to both him and his party, particularly after their unexpected success in the 2024 general election.
“Since his resignation from government in April 2022, Khan has been facing dozens of prosecutions, ranging from bribery and abuse of power to inciting violence against the state.”
