The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) has applauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its dedicated fight against corruption, especially in the ongoing trial of former Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, and others accused of misappropriating N109.5 billion in public funds.

In a statement by HEDA Chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, the group praised the EFCC’s determination in pursuing the case, saying, “The scale of the alleged fraud emphasizes the urgent need for accountability in public office.

We call on the judiciary to ensure swift justice, as delays in these cases can encourage corruption and erode public trust in the system.”

While respecting due process, HEDA emphasized the need for justice to be timely and free of unnecessary delays or technicalities.

Suraju further stated, “The judiciary must handle such cases with urgency and fairness, supporting the fight against corruption. We expect the same commitment in handling cases like that of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.”

HEDA also called for the prosecution of States’ Commissioners of Finance and Governors involved in the Paris Club refund corruption tied to the case.

The organization reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance in Nigeria, urging all stakeholders to work towards a justice system that effectively strengthens the country’s anti-corruption efforts.
