New revelations have emerged regarding the boat tragedy on April 10, which claimed the life of Nollywood actor John Paul Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope, along with four others.
Contrary to earlier reports, it has been confirmed that Junior Pope did not refuse a life jacket; instead, none were provided by the boat operators. The incident occurred when the speedboat, carrying the cast and crew of a film, collided with a fishing canoe, leading to the tragic loss. Only two passengers had life jackets, which they had hired themselves.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria has called for stricter safety measures, including mandatory life jackets for all water passengers, emphasizing the need for better safety education among their colleagues. The findings have prompted a call for regulatory changes to prevent such tragedies in the future. The tragic loss has deeply affected the Nollywood community, which mourns the untimely death of a beloved actor
