The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu agreed on a new minimum wage of N70,000.
However, during an emergency meeting, the NLC’s National Executive Council (NEC) emphasized the need for strict adherence to this new wage by all levels of government. The NLC praised its leadership for their resolve and commitment to defending the rights of Nigerian workers and urged all Nigerians to unite in holding leaders accountable.
Despite considering the decision challenging and falling short of their initial demands, the NLC stated that it was made in solidarity with the Nigerian masses to prevent further hardship from a potential petrol price hike. The NEC reaffirmed the NLC’s dedication to continuously fighting for the rights and welfare of Nigerian workers. They also called on both national and subnational governments to comply fully with the new minimum wage to ensure its effective implementation across the country.
