Nigerian rapper Jude Abaga, widely known as M.I, has openly admitted that supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) was a mistake, expressing regret over his decision to back the party.
M.I, who gained prominence with his track “African Rapper No. 1,” explained that he initially aligned with the APC in 2015, driven by his belief that the then-ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was deeply corrupt and needed to be replaced.
However, the rapper revealed that the APC has not lived up to his expectations, acknowledging that it is not the party he envisioned for Nigeria’s future. In a candid conversation on the Menism podcast, M.I reflected on the criticism he faced, saying, “I tweeted about the herdsmen attacks in Benue, and many people reminded me, ‘But M.I, you supported the APC.’”
He went on to explain, “Yes, I supported the APC back then because I felt the PDP government was very corrupt. I was part of those who raised their voices, demanding a change in leadership.”
Despite his initial support, M.I admitted that, like everyone else, he too is vulnerable to mistakes. “As human beings, no matter how hard we try to be right, we sometimes get it wrong. Unfortunately, the APC is not the party I had hoped for,” he said.
The rapper emphasized that he is now focused on using his platform and influence to engage with Nigeria’s youth in creating a better future for the country. “My priority now is to collaborate with young people, channeling our energy into building a more just and prosperous Nigeria,” he added.
