British broadcaster Piers Morgan has called on former U.S. President Donald Trump to urge Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to put an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Morgan posted a message on Sunday via X (formerly Twitter), where he expressed his concerns about the escalating violence.
“President @realDonaldTrump, now is the time for you to tell @netanyahu to end this terrible war in Gaza, and stop the incessant daily slaughter of civilians,” Morgan wrote.
“Only you can do this, and as your friend, who knows you hate war, I urge you to.”
His appeal follows the announcement by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) that they had successfully targeted and killed one of Hamas’ key founders in a joint operation with the Israel Security Agency (ISA).
The IDF confirmed that Hakham Muhammad Issa Al-Issa, a senior figure in Hamas’ military faction, was killed during an airstrike in Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood on Friday.
Netanyahu, meanwhile, has faced mounting pressure from various quarters. Opposition politicians, relatives of hostages held in Gaza, and even members of his coalition government have called for an end to the conflict, which ignited following Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Despite the ongoing pressure, Trump recently stated that progress is being made toward a resolution and that efforts are underway for a ceasefire to bring an end to the more than 20-month-long war.
