Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has strongly denounced her suspension from the Nigerian Senate, calling it an infringement on the principles of natural justice, fairness, and equity.
In a defiant statement shared on her Facebook page, Akpoti-Uduaghan declared, “Against the culture of silence, intimidation and victim-shaming; my unjust suspension from the Nigerian Senate invalidates the principles of natural justice, fairness, and equity.”
She continued by stressing that the suspension does not diminish her legal right to serve her country and her constituents.
“The illegal suspension does not withdraw my legitimacy as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” she asserted. “I will continue to use my duly elected position to serve my constituents and country to the best of my ability till 2027 … and beyond.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed that, despite being temporarily banned from presenting herself as a senator, she remains fully committed to her responsibilities.
She further noted, “This suspension cannot silence me, nor will it stop my mission to represent my people and speak out for justice. I will continue to advocate for the rights of Nigerians and work towards the development of our nation.”
The Senate’s decision to suspend Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months without pay follows accusations that she violated Senate rules in relation to her sexual harassment allegations, which she claims were unfairly dismissed by some of her colleagues.
She strongly refuted the suspension, calling it an attempt to suppress her voice and hinder her dedication to the service of her constituents.
Despite the suspension, Akpoti-Uduaghan remains determined, concluding, “I will not be deterred.
I stand firm in my resolve to serve Nigeria, and I am ready to face any challenge that comes my way in this pursuit of justice and fairness.”
