South Africa’s Foreign Minister, Ronald Lamola, has stated that the United States has not responded to Pretoria’s attempts to discuss the aid freeze imposed by former President Donald Trump.
Trump had cut off US financial assistance, citing South Africa’s land reform policies and its legal case against Israel.
Lamola expressed frustration, saying, “Despite all our attempts… we are awaiting feedback and a response,” adding that South Africa is hopeful for a conversation with the US.
Meanwhile, Lamola highlighted that China had offered its support, with promises to assist with trade relations and other challenges. South Africa is also organizing bilateral talks with multiple countries to gather further support.
Despite the US objections to the G20 theme “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” Lamola emphasized that South Africa would continue with the planned agenda.
Lamola reaffirmed that the land reform policy and the genocide case against Israel are “non-negotiable.” South Africa, which projects itself as neutral in global conflicts, is preparing for all scenarios, even as it continues to seek dialogue with the United States
