South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has dismissed two of the country’s five Vice Presidents, along with two ministers, one governor, two presidential envoys, and the Director General of National Security, in a sweeping government reshuffle.

The move, announced in a presidential decree late Monday, included the immediate appointment of replacements for the ousted officials. However, the government has not provided specific reasons for the dismissals.

This marks one of the most significant shake-ups in Kiir’s administration, which has been navigating the country’s fragile peace process ahead of the scheduled elections. The changes could impact power dynamics within the ruling coalition.

South Sudan’s unity government, formed under a 2018 peace agreement, is structured with five vice presidents representing different political factions. The latest dismissals may heighten tensions among political groups vying for influence.

The presidency has yet to release details on how the reshuffle will affect ongoing preparations for elections and security arrangements in the country.
