KAMPALA, UGANDA | Xinhua | Uganda’s top female striker Fazila Ikwaput has joined Indian Women’s Premier League side Gokulam Kerala FC.
Ikwaput confirmed to Xinhua that she has rejoined the Indian side she featured for in 2018.
“I am very happy that I arrived here just a day ago and went straight for a match and scored two goals,” Ikwaput told Xinhua.
The former Kampala Queens striker made her debut on Saturday and helped her new team beat Sports Odisha FC 8-0 in a Premier League match.
The 27-year old last season managed to score three goals from the four matches for Kampala Queens FC in the 2023/24 FUFA Women Super League season before she got injured.
Ikwaput, who was part of Uganda’s national women’s team that played at the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations 2022 in Morocco, has also played professional football before in Kazakhstan, Cyprus and India.
She is the first Ugandan player to play and score in the UEFA Women’s Champions League while at Kazakhstan’s BIIK Shymkent. She previously also featured for Omonia Nicosia (Cyprus) and Ugandan sides Olila High School, Lady Doves and Kampala Queens FC
