The United States government issued an emergency advisory dated November 3, warning of “elevated threats” to major hotels in Nigeria’s larger cities. While acknowledging that Nigerian security agencies are actively countering this threat, the advisory urges US citizens to exercise vigilance at major hotels, maintain awareness of their surroundings, adopt a low profile, and review the travel advisory for Nigeria before staying in such establishments. The US government is basing this warning on credible information. Additionally, contact information for the US embassy in Abuja and consulate in Lagos is provided for assistance. In October, the US had already cautioned its citizens to exercise restraint when traveling globally, with Nigeria being classified under the third tier of caution alert (Reconsider to travel).
