Nepal-Tibet Flood Disaster Claims 95 Lives as Hundreds Remain Missing
At least 95 people have died after a sudden flash flood and mudslide tore through communities along the Nepal-Tibet border.
Hundreds of people are still missing as rescue workers search areas devastated by torrents of water and mud.
Nepal’s tourist authorities said the missing include more than 100 Indians, 47 Americans and 33 Britons.
The affected area is popular with tourists, trekkers and pilgrims, leaving many foreign visitors caught in the disaster.
Nepal’s foreign minister said an earthquake could have triggered an avalanche, which may have caused the deadly flooding.
However, officials have not confirmed what exactly set off the disaster.
Videos from the region showed water and mud crashing through buildings at a border crossing on the Tibetan side.
In Nepal, footage showed residents running for safety as floodwaters swept through the area.
Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to find survivors and establish the full number of casualties.
