Fela Durotoye, former presidential candidate, revealed he was offered N5bn in a fraudulent government deal but turned it down.
Speaking at the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria conference, he shared, “A few years ago… it’s not this administration, it’s not the last administration, it’s a while ago let me leave it like that.”
A man, who claimed to be a pastor, pressured Durotoye to accept a training contract, initially valued at N1.3bn, but the offer was later inflated to N5bn.
The official told him, “There is no sorrow in this one. You have been doing well for Nigeria. It is time for Nigeria to do well for you.”
Durotoye refused, and three months later, some officials were arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for misappropriating N426m from a training fund.
He also revealed that during his time as Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu, “I did not collect an official car, I did not collect a house, and I did not collect a salary for serving,” adding that his refusal to accept such benefits made it “difficult to pin me to corruption.”
