The Premier League is taking legal action against FIFA for overcrowding the football calendar, endangering player health.

The European Leagues, with support from FIFPRO Europe, is filing a complaint with the European Commission over FIFA’s new 32-team Club World Cup and the lack of player rest periods.

The complaint argues FIFA’s dual role as a regulator and competition organizer violates EU competition law. This move follows English player unions’ previous threats of legal action over increasing international fixtures. FIFA has offered peace talks but maintains that the schedule was approved by its council, including European officials.
