The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, says it will sanction any motorists and fleet operators for non-compliance with passengers’ manifest and non-installation of speed limit device, from March 1.

The Sector Commander, Mrs Joyce Alexander made the disclosure at a sit-out with newsmen on Saturday in Awka, to assess the performance of the corps’ at the end of 2024 ‘Operation Zero’ programme.

Alexander lamented the low level of compliance with installation of Speed Limit Device among motorists, especially fleet operators and associated sharp practices such as tampering with the device to deceive enforcement operatives.

She also decried low compliance with the passenger’s manifest law by inter-state and inter-town fleet operators in Anambra, as there was no column for passenger’s Blood Group.

According to her, indicating blood group in the passengers’ manifest helps timely identification and facilitates victim’s medical attention in an accident situation.

“From March 1, FRSC will commence total enforcement in Anambra. We will have special intervention patrol where we will stop and check vehicles.

“Any motorist, especially fleet operators found sabotaging the implementation of the Speed Limit Device and passengers’ manifest will be arrested.

“The Corps will no longer tolerate the failure of fleet operators and motorists to adhere strictly to the terms of the road safety standardisation.

“This enforcement is necessary to avoid road traffic crashes and save lives and property in Anambra,” she said.

The Sector Commander urged drivers to make it mandatory for all passengers to fill in their correct details in the manifest if they wish to follow their bus.

While appreciating the Anambra state government for the ongoing road construction and rehabilitation, saying it helped reduce the rate of road crashes, Alexander appealed to road users to obey traffic rules.

She also commended the media for partnering with FRSC in the area of public enlightenment and education of road safety rules in the state.
