Chelsea will sport a unique gold badge for the next four years following their resounding 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final on Sunday.
Cole Palmer played a starring role, scoring twice within the first 30 minutes to give the Blues a commanding lead. He later turned provider, assisting Joao Pedro, whose exquisite chip over Gianluigi Donnarumma completed the dominant performance.
In addition to the £100 million in prize money and the newly unveiled trophy, Chelsea will receive an unprecedented honor: the right to wear a gold badge. Traditionally, the winning club was allowed to display the badge for just one year, but FIFA’s rebranding of the tournament now permits champions to wear it for a full four years.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s changes have transformed the competition, which will now take place every four years. Previously, the Premier League had limited Liverpool to wearing the gold badge for just one match after their 2019 victory.
But with FIFA’s new policy in place, Chelsea will enjoy the gold badge for a much longer period, a privilege that was once reserved for just a single season.
