World Cup: FIFA Slaps Madibo With Five-Match Ban Over Kone Challenge
Qatar midfielder Assim Madibo has been handed a five-match suspension by FIFA after the tackle that left Canada’s Ismael Kone with a broken leg during a World Cup group-stage match.

The incident occurred in Qatar’s 6-0 defeat to Canada, where Madibo was sent off for a challenge that resulted in Kone suffering fractures to both the tibia and fibula of his left leg.
Following an investigation, FIFA’s disciplinary committee determined that the tackle amounted to serious foul play and imposed a five-game ban on the player.
The punishment is effective immediately, although Madibo has the option of appealing the ruling.
Kone, who represents Italian side Sassuolo at club level, underwent surgery soon after the injury and has begun his recovery.
The unfortunate challenge sparked concern across the football community, with players and officials sending messages of support to the Canadian midfielder.
Despite the controversy surrounding the incident, Madibo later visited Kone in hospital, where the two players reportedly met after the operation.

The suspension is another setback for Qatar, whose World Cup campaign ended in disappointment after failing to make an impact in the tournament.
