Eight months into his presidency, Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia is renewing and seeking more economic partnership within the SADC region, East Africa, around the continent and the world as he held bilateral talks his with Rwandan counterpart, President Paul Kagame on Monday and Tuesday.
President Kagame was in Zambia’s tourist capital, Livingstone where he had high level maiden talks with with President Hichilema.
According to Hichilema’s Facebook statement, the engagements involving the two Presidents focused strengthening Zambia-Rwanda bilateral relations while maximizing on seeking economic common grounds:
“Like we have always stated, Zambia believes that our economies can flourish if regional trade and investment was prioritised and promoted and this is exactly what we did today with the Republic of Rwanda.”
Zambia and Rwanda have had bilateral relations from mid-90s and Kagame’s two-day working visit to the 18-million man southern African country was meant to discuss various economic issues of mutual interest as two countries signed seven more MoUs.
“Zambia today signed seven Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Rwanda, whose main objective is to promote trade and investment between the two sister countries,” said President Hichilema in a Tuesday evening statement.
