Trump Declares ‘Economic D-Day’ Against Iran, Threatens Allies With Punishment
US President Donald Trump has announced a major escalation of economic pressure on Iran, warning countries that continue to provide financial or commercial support to Tehran that they could face serious consequences.
Trump made the declaration on Wednesday as efforts to negotiate an end to the prolonged conflict between Washington and Tehran remained stalled.
In a post on Truth Social, the US President accused Iran of failing to take advantage of an opportunity to reach an agreement and said the country would now face intensified economic pressure and international isolation.
Trump warned that countries allowing their financial institutions, businesses, airports or government agencies to maintain economic links with Iran could also be targeted.
“Any country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences,” he said.
He specifically called for an end to activities including oil smuggling, swap arrangements, cash transfers, dealings through exchange houses, ship registrations and the use of front companies to facilitate Iranian trade.
“You know who you are. This will be an Economic D-DAY, and we require all of our Allies to unite with the United States of America to isolate and overcome the Iran threat,” Trump added.
The announcement represents another phase of the administration’s campaign to weaken Iran economically and restrict Tehran’s ability to generate revenue from international trade.
Since April, Washington has pursued the pressure campaign through an initiative known as Operation Economic Fury, targeting Iran’s major sources of income and its international business networks.
The United States has already imposed extensive sanctions on Iran’s oil, shipping and financial sectors in an effort to reduce the revenue generated from its energy exports.
American authorities have also targeted companies, brokers and tankers accused of facilitating Iranian oil sales overseas.
The administration has further established a naval blockade around Iranian ports as part of its broader effort to restrict Tehran’s access to international markets.
Trump’s latest warning places additional pressure on US allies and other countries doing business with Iran, as Washington seeks wider international cooperation in its campaign to isolate Tehran.
