Gospel Music Veteran Asu Ekiye Reveals 28-Year Marriage Has Ended
Nigerian gospel music veteran, Asu Ekiye, has disclosed that his 28-year marriage to his wife, Kunemofa Asu, has come to an end.
Ekiye, widely known as the “Prince of the Niger Delta,” announced the development on Thursday in a post shared on his Facebook page.
The singer revealed that the marriage ended a year ago but explained that he chose not to make the matter public immediately.
According to him, he needed time to process the end of the relationship and gain the clarity and acceptance required before discussing such a personal matter publicly.
In the statement, titled “Public Notice,” Ekiye described the marriage as a significant chapter of his life, shaped by years of experience, growth and reflection.
He said, “I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to KUNEMOFA ASU has come to an end, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season.”
The gospel singer added that he intentionally waited until a year after the marriage ended before making the announcement.
“This marriage ended a year ago. I have deliberately chosen to make this announcement only now, after allowing time to bring the perspective, clarity and quiet acceptance that such a deeply personal transition deserves,” he stated.
Ekiye did not disclose the reason for the breakdown of the marriage or provide details about the circumstances surrounding the separation.
The Bayelsa-born musician has been active in Nigerian gospel music for decades and has earned recognition for his music and his strong Niger Delta identity.

With the announcement, Ekiye has publicly confirmed the end of a marriage that lasted nearly three decades, while indicating that he is prepared to move into a new phase of his life.
