Student Opens Fire at Thailand School, Leaves Several Dead
Several people were killed and others injured after a student opened fire at a secondary school in Thailand on Friday, triggering panic among students and teachers and prompting a massive emergency response.
The shooting occurred at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district, Nonthaburi province, just north of the Thai capital, Bangkok.
Thai police later confirmed that seven people, including the suspected gunman, died in the attack, while at least 15 others were injured and taken to hospital.
Nonthaburi provincial police commander, Lt. Col. Dechrapee Kongdee, said the suspected shooter was a student of the school.
He confirmed that the gunman died after the attack, while investigators continued efforts to establish what led to the incident.
Thailand’s Permanent Secretary for the Interior Ministry, Arsit Sampantharat, said the student remained inside the school after the shooting before security personnel secured the campus.
Witnesses described scenes of fear as gunfire sent students rushing for cover. One student told local reporters that classmates hid inside a classroom after hearing shots from another building.
They remained there until police officers arrived and led them to safety.
Police, rescue workers and medical personnel quickly responded to the emergency, surrounding the school and evacuating the injured.
Images from the scene showed distressed parents, students and teachers gathered outside as ambulances transported victims to nearby hospitals.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of those killed or released details about a possible motive for the shooting. A full investigation is now underway.
Debsirin Nonthaburi School is among Thailand’s well-known secondary schools. According to district authorities, it had an enrolment of about 3,100 students and 147 teachers during the 2025 academic year.
The institution is part of the Debsirin network of schools established under the patronage of Thailand’s royal family and has educated a number of prominent figures, including former prime ministers, scholars and writers.
The shooting has sent shockwaves across Thailand, with authorities expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack and review security measures in schools.
