Four Siblings Die After Drinking Soft Drink Allegedly Given by Relative

Four siblings have died after reportedly falling ill days after consuming a soft drink allegedly given to them by a relative.

The children, aged 12, seven, five and three, reportedly died last week in Amufu community, Edumoga, Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.

The incident was made public by Idoma activist Meddy Olotu, who shared details of the tragedy in a video posted on Facebook.

The children’s father alleged that the siblings shared a bottle of soft drink given to them by a relative identified as Anthony Adam.

He said he was away from home when the children received the drink and only became aware of the situation after they fell ill.

According to him, the children became sick two or three days after consuming the drink.

He said he initially rushed one child to hospital before returning home to make arrangements for the others.

However, he soon discovered that another child had also become ill.

The grieving father said the situation worsened rapidly, with one child dying as he struggled to get medical assistance.

He said three of the children were dead by 7am the following day, while his first son died around noon.

Overwhelmed by the loss, the father said he attempted to take his own life but was stopped by people around him.

He further claimed that Adam and his son denied knowing anything about what happened to the children.

A separate video circulating online appeared to show community youths taking Adam into custody.

The cause of the children’s deaths remains unclear, while the allegations against Adam have not been independently established.

Attempts to obtain comments from the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of filing the report.

Authorities have yet to publicly confirm the cause of death or state whether a formal investigation is underway.
