Tanker explosion that occurred in Niger State, Nigeria, has claimed 86 lives, with the remains of the victims laid to rest in a mass grave.
According to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), “80 victims were buried at the Dikko Primary Healthcare premises,” while five others were handed over to their families. In addition, “55 individuals have been injured, with one fatality recorded at the healthcare facility in Dikko.”
The explosion, which took place at Dikko Junction, prompted swift action by local authorities and volunteers, who worked “tirelessly to ensure the proper handling of the victims.”
The Governor of Niger State, Umaru Bago, expressed his distress, describing the incident as “pathetic” and emphasizing the importance of improved safety measures.
The ongoing recovery efforts serve as a reminder of the need for heightened safety and public awareness to prevent such disasters in the future.
