Quarter-Final Picture Begins to Clear as Three Teams Advance at WAFCON
The race for the knockout stage of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is beginning to take shape, with three countries becoming the first to secure their places in the quarter-finals after impressive performances in the group stage.
Cameroon led the way after defeating Ghana 1-0 on Sunday. The victory earned the Indomitable Lionesses six points from two matches and guaranteed them a top-two finish in Group D, leaving their final group game against Cape Verde with no effect on their qualification.
Hosts Morocco also booked their place in the last eight after settling for a goalless draw against Senegal in Rabat on Monday night.
The result saw the Atlas Lionesses finish top of Group A with seven points from three matches.
Algeria completed the list of qualified teams after recording a 2-0 victory over Kenya in their final group match.
The win took them to six points, enough to finish second in Group A behind Morocco and continue their journey in the tournament.
With the first quarter-final places now decided, the spotlight shifts to the remaining group fixtures, where more teams will fight for the available spots in the knockout stage as the chase for the African title gathers momentum.
