South Korea Bans Travel to Mali Over Rising Terrorist Attacks

The South Korean government has announced a total travel ban on Mali due to the growing threat of terrorism in the West African country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Level 4 travel warning the highest in Korea’s four-tier system will take effect immediately.

This decision follows a sharp rise in attacks linked to the al-Qaeda-affiliated armed group, JNIM, which has made public safety in Mali increasingly unstable.

Officials explained that Mali’s capital city, Bamako, where most South Koreans living in the country are based, is now under heavy restrictions and facing a virtual blockade.

The security situation has worsened in recent months, with reports of violence spreading across several regions.

The Korean government said it is closely monitoring the situation while working to ensure the safety of its citizens abroad.

The ministry has strongly advised all South Koreans currently in Mali to leave as soon as possible and warned others to cancel any planned trips to the country.

The government added that anyone who ignores the travel ban could face penalties under Korean law.

The move highlights Seoul’s growing concern for the safety of its nationals in areas affected by terrorism and political instability.
