Fire has destroyed 90% of the famous Aberdares National Park and forest in central Kenya, authorities have reported, saying the flames have since been contained.

From last Saturday, the East African country’s firefighters and local residents in affected communities have been battling the fierce blaze, which has disturbed both nature and human activities.

The cause of a huge blaze which has laid waste over 600 hectares of forestland, remains to be known as government say investigations are underway.

Protected elephants and endangered black rhinos remain under a threat, wild authorities have said.
