Woman Arrested In Ghana Over Alleged Plot To Kill President Mahama
Ghanaian police have arrested a woman over alleged threats to assassinate President John Dramani Mahama after videos containing inflammatory remarks surfaced online.
The suspect, identified as Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, was apprehended by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) following an intelligence-led operation.
According to police authorities, the woman allegedly posted a series of TikTok videos in which she verbally attacked the President, threatened to kill him and allegedly called on others to target both Mahama and the First Lady.
A statement issued by the police on Thursday said the arrest was carried out on May 20 by a joint team comprising officers from the CVET and the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department.
The suspect was tracked and arrested at Sekyere Zongo in the Sekyere Kumawu District in Ghana’s Ashanti Region after the videos gained widespread attention on social media.
Police said the suspect is currently in custody and will be put before the court to face charges linked to the alleged threats and incitement.
