Medical Examiner Reveals AIDS as Cause of Death for ‘The Ring’ Star Daveigh Chase

Actor Daveigh Chase, who gained international recognition for her role as Samara in The Ring and voiced Lilo in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, died from complications of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

The official report identified chronic polysubstance use as another significant contributing condition and classified the 35-year-old’s death as natural. Chase died in a Los Angeles hospital on June 16.

The findings were released after Chase’s father, John David Schwallier, previously said she had been hospitalized with bacterial meningitis and a bloodstream infection before her death.

He also revealed that she had been homeless and living in Los Angeles with her boyfriend.

After Chase’s death, her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, created a GoFundMe campaign, saying she had been battling meningitis and severe blood infections.

The fundraiser later became the centre of a dispute when Chase’s former manager, John Ryan, urged fans not to donate, saying the actress’s family had not approved the campaign and was handling her funeral arrangements.

Hernandez denied the allegations, insisting the fundraiser was legitimate, while GoFundMe said it was reviewing the matter.

Chase began acting at a young age and achieved worldwide fame for her performance in the 2002 horror film The Ring.

She also voiced Lilo in Lilo & Stitch and the English-language version of Chihiro in Spirited Away, leaving behind a body of work that earned her recognition as one of Hollywood’s notable child actors.
