EFCC Drops Over 40 Staff In Major Shake-Up

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has dismissed more than 40 personnel, its chairman, Ola Olukoyede, disclosed Monday in Abuja.

Olukoyede made the disclosure while addressing media executives and journalists on the commission’s activities and internal reforms.

He said more than five of those dismissed were currently facing prosecution, while case files involving others were being prepared.

The EFCC chairman said the commission remained committed to maintaining high standards among personnel involved in investigating and prosecuting financial crimes.

He disclosed that the agency had introduced a gift policy to regulate what personnel could receive and declare.

According to him, staff would be required to declare gifts exceeding a specified threshold, including those received from relatives abroad.

Olukoyede said the policy would help personnel account for their means of livelihood and standard of living.

He warned that EFCC personnel could not effectively fight corruption while engaging in practices capable of undermining the agency’s mission.

Meanwhile, the commission has renamed its former Department of Internal Affairs as the Department of Ethics and Integrity.

Olukoyede said the change formed part of measures aimed at strengthening accountability and ethical conduct within the agency.

The chairman also disclosed that EFCC activities had contributed to revenue mobilisation, with about N288.1 billion recovered in federal and state taxes.

He said federal tax recoveries accounted for N173.2 billion, while state internal revenue services contributed N114.9 billion.

The commission, he added, recovered approximately N257.2 billion for federal ministries, departments and agencies.

Olukoyede said the EFCC recovered N1.23 trillion, $684.48 million, £373,905.78 and €9.34 million during the period under review.

He further disclosed that N661.32 billion and $492.37 million from the recoveries had been released to beneficiaries.
