Woman Says She Slept Through Childbirth as Nurses Later Found Baby Under Blankets
A 27-year-old mother has shared the terrifying experience of unknowingly giving birth while asleep, revealing that hospital staff only realized her baby had been delivered after they could no longer detect his heartbeat on a monitor.

Carolina Moreno, a Canadian mother of three, recounted the incident in a viral TikTok video, describing it as one of the most frightening moments of her life. Her youngest son is now three months old and healthy.
Moreno explained that she was admitted to the hospital for an induced labour after testing positive for Group B Streptococcus (GBS), a common bacterial infection that required her to receive antibiotics before labour was induced.
Since she was already three centimetres dilated, doctors proceeded with the induction by breaking her water and administering Pitocin to strengthen her contractions. As the pain intensified, she requested an epidural.
She said the medication took longer than expected to provide relief, and after receiving additional doses, she eventually became comfortable enough to fall asleep while her husband, sister and cousin remained in the delivery room.
While she was asleep, nurses continued routine checks on the baby’s heartbeat. When the monitor repeatedly failed to detect it, they assumed the baby had changed position, something that had happened several times earlier during labour.
As the search for the heartbeat continued, Moreno woke up and became increasingly worried.
Following the nurse’s instructions, she turned onto her back, at which point the nurse noticed her abdomen felt unusually different.
Moments later, Moreno felt something between her legs. When the nurse lifted the blankets, they discovered her newborn son lying face down beneath them. The baby was silent, causing panic in the room as Moreno feared he was no longer alive.
The nurse quickly picked up the infant and stimulated him until he finally began to cry, bringing relief to everyone present.
Moreno said her husband initially thought he had simply missed the birth before realizing that no one in the room had been aware the baby had already been delivered.
Looking back on the incident, Moreno said medical staff later explained that her son had essentially delivered himself while she was asleep, which was why they could no longer locate his heartbeat on the monitor.
Although the experience left her deeply traumatized, Moreno said her baby was born in perfect health.

She described him as an exceptionally calm infant who rarely cries, adding that he has been the easiest of her three children to care for.
