WAFCON 2026: Senegal Hold Off Kenya to Start Campaign With Victory
Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses opened their WAFCON 2026 campaign on a winning note, edging Kenya’s Harambee Starlets 1-0 at Stade Père Jégo in Casablanca.

The Senegalese side produced a disciplined performance, keeping Kenya’s physical approach under control for much of the contest and giving little away at the back.
The only goal of the match came in the 38th minute after a costly defensive error by Kenya. Senegal forward Hapsatou Malado Diallo reacted quickly to the opening, racing through before calmly placing the ball beyond the advancing goalkeeper.
Kenya pushed hard for an equaliser as the game entered its closing stages, but Senegal remained organised and resisted the pressure to protect their narrow advantage.
The victory gives the Teranga Lionesses three valuable points from their opening fixture and provides an early boost as the group-stage battle gathers pace.
For Kenya, the defeat leaves little room for error. The Harambee Starlets will need a strong response in their next match to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage alive.

Senegal, meanwhile, will head into their next fixture with confidence after securing a hard-earned win and a clean sheet.
