Kogi Forest Raid Frees 21 Abducted Victims, 10 Corps Members

Troops and other security agencies have rescued 21 kidnapped victims, including 10 corps members, during a coordinated operation in Kogi State.

The victims were rescued from Egume and Ochaja forests following the abduction of passengers travelling along the Alloma–Ejule–Itobe road.

The operation involved the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, local hunters and vigilantes, who jointly searched the forest.

The Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Lt Hassan Abdullahi, said security personnel acted on credible intelligence about the victims’ whereabouts.

He said the rescued group comprised eight males and 13 females, while one male victim sustained a gunshot wound during the operation.

The injured victim was evacuated to a medical facility for immediate treatment, while the other rescued victims remained under military protection.

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police said security operations were continuing to locate other victims abducted during the attack involving two buses.

He said security personnel were also pursuing the perpetrators responsible for the abduction while working to secure the safe release of remaining victims.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, praised the troops and other personnel involved in the successful rescue operation.

The police said the rescued corps members were expected at the state police headquarters in Lokoja after their recovery.

The police commissioner added that another victim rescued during an earlier operation had already reunited with family members in Abuja.
