LASEMA, fire services contain Ojuelegba building fire

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says it has successfully contained a fire outbreak at a two-storey building in Ojuelegba, Surulere area of Lagos, with no casualty recorded.

The Head, Public Affairs, LASEMA, Mr Olawale Afolabi, disclosed this on Tuesday in Lagos.

Afolabi said that the incident occurred at No. 2, Makinde Street, Ojuelegba.

According to him, LASEMA Cobra response team, upon arrival at the scene, confirmed that the building was engulfed by fire, with preliminary investigations attributing the cause to a power surge.

He said a multi-agency response was immediately activated to contain the situation and prevent the spread of the fire to adjoining structures.

He listed responding agencies to include the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police Force.

LASEMA said the fire had been successfully subdued, while dampening down operations were ongoing to prevent any possible reignition.

“The State Government is pleased to report that no life was lost and no injuries were recorded in the incident,” Afolabi said.

He added that the outcome reflected the effectiveness of the state’s emergency response system and the professionalism of the responders.

He noted that the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, commended the coordinated efforts of all agencies involved.

He advised residents to take precautionary measures against fire outbreaks, particularly those caused by electrical faults.

Oke-Osanyintolu urged residents to unplug electrical appliances when not in use, engage qualified electricians for wiring, and install circuit breakers to mitigate risks.

He also encouraged the public to promptly report emergencies through the state’s toll-free lines 767 and 112.

The agency assured residents that the situation was under control and there was no further threat to lives or property in the area.
