The Malawi Human Rights Commission strongly condemned state police for putting Sylvester Namiwa, a human rights activist in solitary detention and in leg irons after he stood against a government Bill.
According to local media, he was arrested early this week for organizing what the police described as an illegal demonstration.
Namiwa, a leader Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative, organized demonstrations in for demand government explanation on how a sensitive Bill found itself in parliament without following normal procedures.
Parliament seeks to use the Bill in question to authorise the government to borrow more than £84m in effort to build housing unite for men and women in uniform including immigration officers.
