Mr. Magaji Zachariah Cheye, Director/Principal of King’s College Lagos, emphasized that the school is blessed with a “multitude of gifted athletes” capable of reaching global success.

This statement was made during his welcome speech at the college’s 105th annual Inter-House Sports and Athletics competition.

He highlighted that the competition, which has been part of the school’s culture for over a century, promotes not only academic excellence but also physical well-being, character building, and friendships.

“This momentous occasion is a testament to the rich history and tradition of excellence that King’s College embodies,” Cheye stated.

He further encouraged students to participate with enthusiasm, emphasizing that success isn’t just about winning, but about effort, determination, and personal growth.

“Let the experience of today be filled with joy and celebration, regardless of the outcome,” Cheye said, adding that sports also teach valuable life lessons such as humility and the importance of accepting both victory and defeat.

Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, expressed his pride in being part of the event, stressing that sports teach perseverance, teamwork, and hard work.

“Success does not come without hard work,” he stated, reminding students that setbacks offer opportunities to grow stronger.

Engr. Peter Oluwaleye, Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), shared the association’s commitment to addressing the college’s infrastructure challenges. He mentioned ongoing renovation efforts to improve facilities and create a better environment for learning.

“As a body, we took it upon ourselves to embark on a massive renovation exercise,” he said, adding that the government must increase support for the college’s needs.

The principal and speakers underscored the importance of community support and the ongoing efforts to ensure that King’s College continues to thrive.
