NIGERIA: Tragic Loss as House of Representatives Member Dies

Hon Ekene Abubakar Adams, representing Chikun/Kajuru in Kaduna State, Nigeria, has passed away.

Adams, a former footballer and ex-general manager of Kada City FC and Remo Stars, was elected to the House of Representatives in 2023 under the Labour Party. Despite being a first-timer, his sports background earned him the role of Chairman of the House Committee on Sports.

Adams had a varied political journey, joining APGA and APC before finding success with the Labour Party. In 2021, he lost primaries for local government chairman and House of Reps under APC but eventually secured his seat with LP. Adams came from a diverse background, with an Igbo mother, Yoruba wife, and a father from a minority tribe in Kaduna.

This marks the second death in the House of Representatives within a week.
