The Same God Who Settled 2023 Will Settle Abia 2027 — Otti Replies Kalu

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has dismissed threats by former governor and senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, to stop his re-election in 2027, insisting that no political pressure can derail his administration’s commitment to governance and development.

Otti spoke on Saturday during a worship service at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Umuikaa District Headquarters in Isialangwa South Local Government Area, where he attended service alongside his wife, Priscilla Chidinma.

Responding to the rising political tension in the state, the governor said he was not distracted by early campaign battles or opposition attacks.

“I am not bothered about 2027. The same God who settled 2023 will also settle 2027,” Otti told the congregation.

He added that his administration would remain focused on delivering results to Abians rather than engaging in political drama.

“No one, or group of people, whoever they are, is entitled to distract us. When they make noise, we should not be bothered. We should just remain focused and do what we have to do,” he said.

Political Tension in Abia
The governor’s remarks come amid a growing political feud involving Otti and three former Abia governors — Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu.

In recent weeks, Kalu had openly vowed to block Otti’s second-term ambition, a statement that has triggered a fresh round of political exchanges in the state.
Reacting to the attacks, Otti questioned the urgency of the opposition’s 2027 campaign.

“Sometimes, I worry if it is the 2027 election they are talking about, or maybe there’s another election coming up. But the same way God delivered me in 2023, that is the way He will deliver me in 2027,” he said.

Government Pushback
Last week, the Abia State Government, through the Special Adviser on Policies and Interventions, Rev. Fr. Christian Anokwuru, cautioned opposition figures against attempting to pitch Governor Otti against President Bola Tinubu.

Anokwuru accused former political office holders of lacking moral authority to challenge the present administration, saying Abians still remember their records in office.

“When former governors whose records are still fresh in the collective memory of Abians congregate to challenge the leadership of Dr Alex Otti, the public is entitled to interrogate not just their claims, but also their credibility,” he said.

He added that the opposition should focus on defending their own performance rather than hiding behind President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.

During the church visit, Otti also apologised to residents over the inconvenience caused by ongoing road construction projects across parts of the state.

He explained that the state government had secured approval from the Federal Government to reconstruct and dualise major federal roads passing through Abia, including the Onuimo–Tower axis.

“We are at the final stages of dualising this road. It is a federal road, but we got approval to reconstruct and dualise it. The idea is that any time you get into Abia State, you know you’ve gotten into Abia State,” he said.

Leaders and members of the Alex Otti Vanguard Movement for Continuity 2027 used the occasion to reaffirm their support for the governor’s second-term bid.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Dr Fineboy Ikechi Joseph, Elder G.C. Ukaegbu, and Elder E.C. Alozie said Otti’s achievements across the state were enough to guarantee him another term.

“Governor Otti’s performance has restored hope to Abia people. His leadership has changed the face of the state,” they said.
The service ended with prayers for the governor and the continued progress of Abia State.
