THE SHINNING ARMOUR TIWA SAVAGE

For so many years, women have been underrated and years back, there was this misconception that a woman’s place is the kitchen only, especially in regards to African women. It is just wonderful to see African women defiling all odds and taking their place in society.
This week’s AfricaWorld Woman therefore is no other than Tiwatope Savage professionally known as Tiwa Savage.

She is considered to be arguably the biggest pop star to emerge from West Africa during the 2010s, with several hit songs and international awards to her name. Tiwa Savage is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress who was born on the 5th of February, 1980 in Isale Eko, Lagos State Of Nigeria. At the age of 11, Tiwa Savage relocated to London to further her studies. She then went on to study business administration at the University of Kent and Berkeley music school in the United Kingdom where she obtained a degree.

Years later, she relocated to the United States of America where she started her professional music journey in 2010. She began by just doing backup vocals for artists such as Mary J. Blige. And even signing a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2009, she still was inspired by the humongous growth of the Nigerian Music Industry hence, she decided to relocate back to Nigeria and in 2012,she signed a record deal with Marvin Records in 2012 owned and managed by Don Jazzy one of the richest musicians in Nigeria.

In 2013, July, she released her first studio album “Once Upon a Time” and it was an instant hit. It made her blossom and the album was nominated for Best Album of the year at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards and for Best R&B/ Pop Album at the Headies 2014. Since then, she has gone on to release numerous hits and made her one of the most celebrated female musician on the African continent.

In 2016, she signed a management and publishing deal with Roc Nation and three years later, in May 2019, she parted ways with Marvin Records after Universal Group signed her.

Tiwa Savage has had several awards and recognition for her music such as Best R&B Soul Song, “Kele Kele”, Afrotainment Museke Online Music Awards in 2012, World’s Best Song and World’s Best Video, World Music Awards 2014, Best female Artist, ‘Wanted’ Eloy Awards in 2015, African Video of the Year, Best African Female Video and Best West African Video ‘Bad’ WatsUp TV Africa Music Video Awards,2016 just to mention only but a few.

As of 2021, Tiwa Savage’s net worth is estimated to be at 5million USD and she’s considered to be one of the richest and most influential artist in Nigeria. Tiwa Savage is an amazing vocalist and indeed a shinning armor in the entertainment industry. Tiwa Savage is an inspiration to the African girl child who wants to make it badly in life and make an impact in people’s lives.
