US, Saudi Arabia Hit Back After Iran Missile Attack

The United States and Saudi Arabia have carried out fresh military strikes following an Iranian missile attack on American forces in the Middle East, signaling a renewed escalation in regional tensions.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Iran launched multiple ballistic missiles toward a US military base in Jordan on Tuesday.

According to the military, all the missiles were intercepted before they reached their target, with no casualties reported.

In response, US and Saudi warplanes struck locations in Iraq that Washington says are linked to Iran-backed militias responsible for recent attacks.

Iraq’s Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) said the airstrikes killed several of its members and left others wounded.

The US accused Tehran of attempting to reignite the conflict after a brief lull in fighting and warned that any further attacks on American troops or Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities would be met with decisive military action.

The flare-up also sent shockwaves through the global oil market after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced they had intercepted three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, alleging the vessels were operating illegally.

The development pushed Brent crude prices higher as traders weighed the risk of disruptions to global oil supplies.

The latest exchange comes only days after both sides had paused military operations, raising hopes that diplomatic efforts could reduce tensions. Those hopes have now been overshadowed by the renewed violence.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has directed security agencies to investigate claims that armed groups inside Iraq launched drone attacks on Saudi oil installations.

He reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to ensuring its territory is not used to carry out attacks against neighboring countries.

Iran-backed militias have rejected the accusations, while Yemen’s Houthi rebels continue to claim responsibility for attacks on Saudi-linked targets and commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

The renewed hostilities coincided with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington, where he held talks with US President Donald Trump.

Both leaders described the meeting as constructive despite growing instability across the Middle East.
