Nigeria : Youths Flog Police Officer, Two Others Over Alleged Drug Use in Rivers Community

Youths in the Nkpolu community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State, have publicly flogged a serving police officer and two other men over allegations of drug use.

The action was part of a community-led campaign against drug abuse, initiated by local youth leaders in response to a rising trend of substance use within the area.

Reports indicate that many residents have lost their homes and personal belongings as a result of addiction. In a recent crackdown, the youths raided a known drug spot and apprehended three individuals, including a police officer identified as Joshua Eyong, who confirmed he serves in the Obio/Akpor division.

In a video circulating online, Eyong was seen presenting his police identification card and did not deny the accusations leveled against him.

Speaking on the incident, Nkpolu Youth President Owhonda Chamberlain stated that the arrests were in line with the community’s ongoing anti-drug campaign. He expressed concern over the devastating impact drugs have had on local families, particularly the youth.

“There is a campaign ongoing in our community, driven by the youths of Nkpolu, based on the mandate given to me as Youth President to ensure a drug-free environment,” Chamberlain said.
