Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea, securing his services until 2030.
The 21-year-old England U21 international joins the Bundesliga side for a reported fee of €25 million. He previously spent the latter half of last season on loan at Dortmund, making 17 appearances across all competitions and scoring once. Despite injury setbacks, Chukwuemeka made a strong impression during his temporary spell.
“I’m happy to call Borussia Dortmund my football home,” Chukwuemeka said. “I’ll give everything to help the team reach its goals.”
Born in Austria and raised in England, Chukwuemeka began his career at Aston Villa before transferring to Chelsea in 2022.
Dortmund’s sporting director Lars Ricken expressed satisfaction with the transfer, saying the midfielder adds “quality and creativity” to their attacking options.
This move follows other summer acquisitions by Dortmund, including Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland and Yan Couto from Manchester City. Jobe’s older brother, Jude Bellingham, played for Dortmund before moving to Real Madrid in a high-profile transfer.
German outlet Bild reported that Dortmund may add more Premier League talents before the transfer window closes, including Chelsea’s Aaron Anselmino and Wolves striker Fabio Silva. Jadon Sancho, who has previously played for Dortmund and was recently on loan at Chelsea, is also being linked with a possible return.
In addition to squad reinforcements, Dortmund announced on Tuesday that head coach Niko Kovac has extended his contract with the club until 2027.
