The Constitutional Court in the capital, Lusaka, Friday, June 11, made a landmark ruling in support of incumbent President Dr Edgar Lungu’s third term bid which attracted three petitions.

In its ruling, the court clarified that President Lungu is legally qualified to run for president as his 2015 to 2016 rule does not make a term.

Lungu ascended to Zambia’s presidency following the demise of President Micheal Sata in 2014, which occasioned the January 2015 election that Mr Lungu won by 27,000 votes difference against his closest rival Hakainde Hichilema.

Speaking to AfricaWorld Reports, a court official who sought anonymity said President Lungu’s third term bid could not be stopped by the court adding that the president has infiltrated the country’s judiciary system with judges sympathetic to the ruling Patriotic Front -PF-.
