The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has addressed recent claims about the withholding of a Certificate of National Service (CNS) for corps member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, identified by code number LA/24B/8325, clarifying that it was due to non-compliance with service requirements, not political reasons.

In a statement signed by Caroline Embu, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, the NYSC responded to misleading reports that had surfaced on social media. The reports falsely suggested that Uguamaye was denied her certificate because of critical comments she made about the government.

“The claims that Rita’s certificate was withheld for political reasons are false,” the NYSC stated. “She is one of 131 corps members whose certificates have been delayed due to valid disciplinary issues. Specifically, Rita’s service was extended by two months after she failed to attend the required April 2025 biometrics clearance, in accordance with the NYSC Bye-Laws.”

The NYSC emphasized that service extensions are a routine measure for all corps members who fail to meet mandatory requirements. This practice is not an exception for Uguamaye and applies equally to others in similar situations.

The statement concluded by urging the public to view the situation with understanding, stressing that the decision to extend service is part of the NYSC’s established guidelines and should not be politicized.

“The NYSC remains committed to its mission of service, as outlined in the Nigerian constitution,” the statement added. “Nigeria is ours; Nigeria, we serve.”
