Egypt, US Reaffirm Coordination to Ease Middle East Tensions
Egypt and the United States have restated their commitment to work closely in addressing rising tensions in the Middle East and promoting regional stability.
The pledge was made on Monday in Cairo during a meeting between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
According to a presidential spokesperson, Cooper delivered greetings from US President Donald Trump, while Sisi highlighted the “deep and historic” ties between Cairo and Washington.
Discussions also underlined the significance of the joint “Bright Star 2025” military exercises, described as a symbol of strong defence and security cooperation between both nations.
Talks focused on containing regional escalation, with both sides stressing the importance of continued coordination to safeguard security amid ongoing crises.
The meeting also addressed the Gaza conflict. Sisi underscored the importance of Egyptian, US, and Qatari mediation in pressing for an immediate ceasefire, securing the release of hostages, and ensuring humanitarian access. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to pushing for calm and reviving negotiations toward a lasting and just peace.
Since October 2023, Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has killed more than 64,500 Palestinians, left widespread destruction, and pushed the enclave into famine.
In November 2024, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.
