The importance of history can never be swept under the carpet in studying the times that we are into. Today in History charges us to study our past so that we can recreate glorious moments or steer our lives out of wreckage.

On this day in 1892, Edward Emerson Barnard was the first to discover a comet by photographic means.

Still on this day in 1976, the first electron micrograph of an Ebola virus was taken at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by Dr. F. A. Murphy.

According to Today in History, on this day in 1993, at least 60 people died in eastern Papua New Guinea when a series of earthquakes rocked the Finisterre Range, triggering massive landslides.

Again, on this day in 2019, Kenyan Brigid Kosgei set a new world record for a woman runner with a time of 2:14:04 at the 2019 Chicago Marathon.

It was on this day in 1980 that Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas who is a renowned American singer, songwriter and actress was born.

It was also on this day in 1706 that Iyasu the Great Emperor of Ethiopia died. He lived for 51 to 52 years but his impact as a member of the Solomonic dynasty has remained a reference point in history.
