Davido Makes History In Nigeria, Becomes First Artiste To Sell Out 30,000-Capacity Godswill Akpabio Stadium

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has etched his name in Nigeria’s entertainment history as the first artiste to sell out the 30,000-capacity Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The record-breaking concert took place on Sunday as part of the Nigerian leg of his “5ive Tour,” drawing a massive crowd of fans who filled every section of the stadium. The performance marked Davido’s first major show in Nigeria since completing the North American phase of the same tour.

Before the concert, Davido paid a courtesy visit to Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, both of whom commended the artiste for his influence on Nigerian youth and his contribution to promoting the country’s image globally.

Davido explained that the decision to kick off the African leg of his tour in Akwa Ibom was deliberate, citing the state’s modern infrastructure and readiness to host world-class entertainment events.

“When we were looking around Africa, Akwa Ibom stood out. The facilities here are top-notch, and people have travelled from other states just to be part of this show,” he said. “We toured America successfully, and it feels great to start the Nigerian leg here with a full stadium.”

He described Akwa Ibom as one of Nigeria’s most beautiful and organised states, adding that more cities could attract global attention if they invested in similar infrastructure.

Senate President Akpabio praised Davido for mentoring young Nigerians through his artistry and for choosing Akwa Ibom to begin his tour.

“You’ve not only entertained millions but also inspired countless young people to believe in their dreams,” Akpabio said.

Governor Eno also thanked Davido for giving local talents an opportunity to perform at the show, describing it as a gesture that motivates emerging artistes across the state.

“You have shown that success is achievable through hard work and consistency,” the governor said. “We are proud to host you and celebrate this moment in our state.”

The concert featured electrifying performances, dazzling stage effects, and guest appearances from several Nigerian artistes, further solidifying Uyo’s position as a growing hub for entertainment in southern Nigeria.

Davido’s “5ive Tour” is scheduled to continue in Yola, Enugu, Ibadan, and will conclude with a grand finale in Lagos on December 25.

Davido, one of Nigeria’s most influential Afrobeats artistes, has built a global following over the past decade with hits like Fall, If, Unavailable, and Feel.

Known for his energetic performances and philanthropy, he has been instrumental in pushing Afrobeats to international recognition.

The 30,000-seat Godswill Akpabio Stadium, primarily used for sports and major state events, has now become the largest venue in Nigeria ever filled to capacity for a music concert, marking a new milestone in the country’s entertainment industry.
