Elders Call for Urgent Global Action to Stop Suffering in Sudan and the DRC

The Elders have raised alarm over the worsening crises in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), calling on world leaders to act immediately to protect innocent civilians.

They warn that people in both countries are facing extreme violence, hunger, and insecurity.

In Sudan, recent attacks on the city of El-Fasher by the Rapid Support Forces have led to severe atrocities, rising famine, and widespread suffering.

The Elders urge all external actors to stop fueling the conflict with illegal weapons and push the warring parties to agree to a three-month humanitarian truce proposed by the United States, UAE, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.

They also highlight the horrifying increase in human rights violations, including sexual violence, in both Sudan and the DRC. Reports show that women and even children are being attacked at alarming rates.

The Elders insist that the International Criminal Court must be fully supported to investigate and hold accountable anyone responsible for these crimes.

In the DRC, they call on Rwanda to respect a UN resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, withdrawal of its troops, and dismantling of parallel structures created by M23 rebels.

They also remind the DRC government of its responsibility to protect civilians and end the cycle of violence.

Finally, the Elders welcome current peace efforts led by the USA, Qatar, and the African Union but emphasize that negotiations must prioritize justice, human rights, and national sovereignty.

They warn that the world has ignored the humanitarian disasters in Sudan and the DRC for too long, and that the international response now will be a true test of global compassion and leadership.
