US Congressman Demands Action Against Fulani Militants Following Mass Abduction
Riley M. Moore, a member of the United States Congress representing Virginia’s Second District, has called on the Nigerian government to disarm radical Muslim Fulani militants terrorizing parts of the country.
His comments came in response to the recent abduction of over 300 children and 12 teachers from St Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State.
The attack occurred on Friday morning when armed assailants stormed the school, firing sporadically before kidnapping a large number of students and staff. The incident has sparked outrage and fear across Nigeria and the international community.
In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Rep. Moore expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. “We now know that more than 300 children and 12 teachers have been kidnapped from St Mary’s Catholic School in Nigeria. As a father, seeing these attacks makes my stomach turn,” he wrote.
He emphasized the urgent need for government action, stressing, “The Nigerian government must disarm the radical Muslim Fulani militants terrorizing the Middle Belt.”
This plea highlights ongoing insecurity challenges in Nigeria’s central regions, where violent clashes involving Fulani militants have caused widespread displacement and suffering.
The incident at St Mary’s Catholic School is the latest in a series of attacks targeting schools and communities, further deepening fears about safety in parts of Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Nigerian authorities continue efforts to rescue the abducted children and teachers, with national and international attention focused on the crisis.
