Former Super Eagles Forward Michael Eneramo Dies After Collapsing During Match

Nigerian football has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo, who collapsed while playing in a friendly match in Kaduna on Friday.

Eneramo, aged 40, was taking part in the game in Ungwan Yelwa when tragedy struck early in the second half.

According to initial reports released by the Nigeria Football Federation, the former international suffered a suspected cardiac arrest just minutes after play resumed.

He had completed the entire first half before unexpectedly going down on the pitch, sending shockwaves through players, officials and spectators.

NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi described the incident as heartbreaking.

“This is devastating. I am short of words at this moment.”

Eneramo represented Nigeria 10 times at senior level, earning admiration for his strength, sharp finishing and tireless work rate.

He famously chose to play for Nigeria despite having the option of representing Tunisia, where he had become a household name during a successful spell.

Fondly known as “The Tank” by supporters of Espérance Sportive de Tunis, Eneramo enjoyed a glittering club career, helping the Tunisian giants to multiple trophies.

He also featured for several Turkish clubs, including Beşiktaş J.K., Sivasspor and İstanbul Başakşehir F.K..

He made his international debut for Nigeria national football team against Jamaica in February 2009 and opened his goal account for the Super Eagles three months later in a friendly against Ireland.

Eneramo’s passing marks the loss of a player whose power, passion and commitment left a lasting imprint on Nigerian football.
